The Hardest Part About Being a College Recruit

The Hardest Part About Being a College Recruit

“Commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality… Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism.” – Abraham Lincoln

Sometimes the best things for you to hear as a recruit or a parent of recruit is the hard truth.  It is so rare when I talk to a family where DI and college scholarship are not their number focus and their ultimate agenda.

There is nothing wrong with big dreams and goals, but if that is all you are after when pursuing a college opportunity, you will probably be a very disappointed family in the end.

Why?  Because you are not committed.  You are not all in.  All-in doesn’t mean you push your life savings on to the roulette table saying “I am betting on myself” with enthusiasm and gusto.  If the roulette ball does not fall on your number, you now have nothing left but the option to completely start over.

Real commitment…is doing the following…

  • Getting your homework and studies completed EVERY night
  • Consistently getting at least 8-9 hours of sleep EVERY night
  • Consistently eating healthy, non-processed foods and drinking lots of water EVERY day
  • Building routines where you are working on your body and your game EVERY day
  • Communicating with positivity to your family, teachers, coaches and teammates EVERY day
  • Inviting new college coaches via email and phone calls to get to know you and possibly recruit you EVERY week

When you are committing to those things, you are truly committed to being a college recruit.  Anything less than those bullets, and you are asking for coaches to NOT recruit you in spite of your talent and potential.  True commitment isn’t just words or attitude.  True committed recruits back up their words and attitude with actions and habits.

Maybe it’s time for you to tell yourself the truth?
