“The hardest part of finding my voice was finding the courage to believe my voice could actually make an impact.” – Rosalie Fishon
I’m proud to announce that The Softball Recruit’s Journal is now available on Amazon and at most major online bookstores. But before you assume it’s just another journal full of blank pages, let me stop you there—this is not your typical journal.
When I begin working with a student-athlete, we don’t start with college lists or recruiting emails. We start with something far more important: their voice.
Who are you?
Why do you play softball?
Do you truly love it?
Why do you want to play in college?
And—maybe most importantly—what do you bring to the table that sets you apart?
Most athletes, when asked these questions during their first call or visit with a college coach, stumble. They ramble. They default to safe answers like, “I just love being part of a team and helping my team win.” That’s fine—but it’s also the most common answer coaches hear. It doesn’t reveal who you really are, what drives you, or what makes you different.
That’s exactly why I created The Softball Recruit’s Journal—to help young athletes dig deeper before they get on the phone with coaches or step onto a college campus. To help them find their voice, so they can tell their story with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
Each week in the journal, athletes will answer reflection prompts like:
- “What separates you from other recruits?”
- “How do you make a college program better?”
- “What does leadership mean to you on and off the field?”
These questions aren’t just warm-ups—they’re difference-makers. When athletes have the time and space to think, write, and reflect, their responses evolve. They begin to sound like someone who truly understands themselves, their purpose, and their path.
And when that happens, confidence grows. Communication improves. Doors open.
Beyond the weekly prompts, this journal also includes:
- Sample email templates and voicemail scripts for reaching out to coaches
- A complete college visit guide (before, during, and after the visit)
- Key questions to ask coaches during conversations and visits
- A place to track coach communication, weekly goals, and personal progress
This is your roadmap. Your companion. Your coaching guide in written form. And most importantly—it’s your voice, coming to life one week at a time.
As I write in the introduction to the journal:
“This journal is your weekly companion — a space to set goals,
reflect on who you are, and document your communication with coaches.
The more honest and consistent you are in using this journal,
the more clarity and leverage you’ll have when the big decisions come.”
Whether you’re early in the process or already deep into your recruiting journey, this journal is for you. Be honest. Be consistent. Be brave enough to write the truth—and confident enough to speak it when the moment comes.
