Appreciating the Gift

Appreciating the Gift

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” -Albert Einstein

It’s been a rewarding and significant week for me.  My first graduates of the Significant Recruiting Launchpad have all left for their new colleges and are starting their careers as college athletes.

I’m excited for all of them, but as their Coach, I am always wondering if I have prepared them enough to start their journey as collegiate student-athletes…and adults.

I thought I would share with you some of the advice I gave them before they left for their new schools:

1. Remember that your value and self-worth are yours alone.  No one can take that from you.

2. Your new coaches believe in you.  They wouldn’t have recruited you if they didn’t.

3. You deserve to be there.  You’ve earned the right to be a college athlete.

4.  Let your love of the game be your constant guide.  Even through the hardest days, don’t forget that you get to put that uniform and do something only 7% of the millions of high school athletes will ever get to do.  Never stop appreciating that gift you’ve given yourself.
